2 States has more to offer beyond the kissing scenes: Arjun Kapoor

Mumbai: Actor Arjun Kapoor says that his upcoming release ‘2 States‘ has more than just the intimate scenes with co-star Alia Bhatt, which has become the talking point of the film. “No one reads anything but (about kissing). So I told jokingly the toughest thing was to kiss Alia and that became the headline. It is the media who asks us questions about it (kissing) and we answer it. The audience doesn’t care about it as much as the headlines are created. I think it is being given undue importance,” Arjun said.

Arjun does feel there is awkwardness while getting cozy on-screen, as there are several people on the sets and one has to follow the director’s vision.“The first time you are doing it, there is a basic awkwardness that I hope it is alright, you don’t want to be a bad kisser for any reason- be it on-screen or off-screen,” Arjun said. ’2 States’ is a romantic drama film based on the 2009 novel of the same name written by Chetan Bhagat. It is being produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Karan Johar. With so much being written about the kissing scenes, when asked if he thinks of de-throning Emraan Hashmi, the serial kisser, Arjun said, “I wake up every morning seeing I can take Emraan’s place. I kissed in my first film ‘Ishqzaade’ and then in ‘Aurangzeb’ I kissed Sasha… now in ’2 States’.

“So for me, I have never looked at dethroning anyone. I think Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor have kissed in almost every film,” he said. The young actor is hopeful that after the release of ’2 States’ on April 18, the audience will start talking about the film. “Where most love stories end this begins. In most rom-com films we don’t see what happens after the romance. This film starts with romance and leads to when the couple decides to take the next inevitable step that is marriage. “It is not done in contemporary way. It is the journey of middle class boy and girl and what they have to do to convince their parents for their partner,” Arjun said.
