Modi in Britain - Britain can only benefit by treating Indians better

India's growth story is people driven however much its leaders wants to take credit for it. As the largest democracy in the world is becoming a prominent player in the world arena especially as an economic powerhouse, world nations are vying each other to harness the business potential in India. There is no other nation than Britain that is better placed to benefit from India's growth story due to its historical connection and a vast English speaking population. But the irony is that British government is going all the way to woo the Chinese government at a time Chinese dragon is fast losing its sheen as Asian economic giant for reasons well known to the economists, business leaders and politicians alike. It is high time Prime Minister David Cameron and his team realise that it is India and not China that will prove to be Britons' best partner in this very volatile political and economic world scenario. Indians value Britain much more if it gives the respect Indians deserve but a ceremonial welcome to its Prime Minister alone cannot take the relations far enough. It is good to recall the contributions of VK Krishna Menon, India's first high commissioner in UK and architect of India's foreign policy in building close relation between the two nations.

According to Dr Cyriac Maprayil, the Executive Director of The VK Krishna Menon Institute -'At least Britain should treat Indians at par with the Chinese when it comes to granting visas to Indian visitors. That will be a good gesture to Indians to begin with and in no time it will transpire to business relations that will forge a true partnership between the two nations'.
