New Delhi: The Intelligence Bureau has issued a second alert within a month warning that terrorists could attack BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi even as Chhattisgarh Police on Wednesday said eight SIMI operatives nabbed in the last one week had told interrogators that they planned to target Modi when he visited the state for electioneering.
The IB said SIMI cadres and terrorists associated with Indian Mujahideen, including those who fled from Khandwa jail in Madhya Pradesh last month, may use an explosive laden vehicle to attack Modi's convoy or rally. IB has also said that that a South India based terror organization - Al-Ummah - would assist SIMI members in their plan. A well-established terror group in the south, Al-Ummah, which been associated with SIMI, has never been found involved in a terror attack in the north.
The IB asked police chiefs of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi to make adequate security arrangements for senior leaders, while urging them to be extra-cautious in Modi's case. The latter three go to polls in the next fortnight. Intelligence agencies are also suspecting that Patna blasts mastermindTehsin Akhtar alias Monu may assist SIMI members in attacking Modi. "According to our intelligence, Modi is the prime target of IM, SIMI and other organizations. We have asked Delhi Police to issue an alert to all its police stations regarding this because Modi has a rally in the capital this weekend," said a top intelligence official.
