Indian-origin woman banker charged with attempted murder in UK
London: A 36-year-old Indian-origin woman banker in the UK was on Wednesday charged with attempted murder of her magistrate mother. According to Scotland Yard spokeswoman, Kuntal Patel who works at Barclays Bank in Canary Wharf here was taken into custody on January 26 this year as anti-terror police raided a property at Stratford in east London after intelligence information suggested the presence of toxic chemicals. Police sources said Kuntal is accused of plotting to kill her 54-year-old mother who sits on the bench at Thames Magistrates' Court in east London. A statement from Scotland Yard today said "A woman has been charged following searches at three addresses in London.
Kuntal has been charged with attempted murder following an investigation by the Counter Terrorism Command. The spokesman said that Kuntal appeared in custody at Westminster Magistrates' Court this evening. "We are not able to discuss further at this stage. Inquiries are ongoing as part of an intelligence-led pre-planned operation." The counter-terrorism team had raided Kuntal's house wearing breathing gear and protective clothing and spent four days search the 450,000 pound terraced home in Park Road, Stratford which she shares with her mother. The investigation followed information about a plot involving a toxic chemical. Two other homes in south London were also searched.
