China honours JNU Professor

Beijing: China has honoured Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Professor Priyadarsi Mukherji with a Special Book Award for his contribution to translation and publication of Chinese books into English, Hindi and Bengali. The award was presented by Chinese Vice-Premier Liu Yandong to Mukherjee besides nine others at a ceremony here on August 26. A professor of Chinese Language, Literature & Culture Studies, Mukherji teaches at JNU, New Delhi. Mukherjee has translated a number of literary works from Chinese into Bengali, Hindi and English, and monographed books on Chinese culture and language over the past 25 years. The award was given to him this year in recognition of his long-term contribution to the translation and publication of Chinese works and cultural exchanges between China and India, an Indian Embassy press release here said on Thursday.
