Dubai: An Indian woman bus conductor was stabbed to death allegedly by her husband, who later tried to commit suicide by cutting his wrist, a media report said. Sonia, who was in her 30's, hailed from Kerala, was stabbed five times on the chest and other body parts by her estranged husband Ranjith in broad daylight just outside the New Indian Model School ( NIMS) in Al Garhoud yesterday.

Her husband then tried to commit suicide by cutting his wrist using the same knife after allegedly committing the crime, Khaleej Times reported. The accused was then hospitalised by the police. The couple was not in good terms with each other and has two school-going children living in Kerala, the report said. Police said Sonia died on the spot due to her severe injuries. About 15 metres away, the police found a severely bleeding man lying on the ground, after he cut the veins of his arm.

Eyewitnesses told the police that the woman was about to enter a bus when the man approached her and started arguing with her. He then took a knife from his pocket and stabbed her. The victim's body was moved to the General Department of Forensic Medicine while the man was transferred to Rashid Hospital, police said. The police have not interrogated the man, who is admitted in the ICU, to learn the motive behind the murder.
