Sharjah: An Indian worker died after a lift collapsed on him during a routine maintenance work in a building here, a media report said. The deceased worker was identified as Shaijjo S, from Kerala. He was an authorised lift mechanic with a private company. He was carrying out a maintenance work at the third floor of the building when the lift collapsed on him. The incident happened on Friday afternoon, Khaleej Times reported. When the lift fell, the colleagues of the deceased did not call the police for about 40 minutes as they tried to rescue him, said Major Al Naqbi, duty officer at Al Heera police station. When the police team arrived later, they found him already dead. The police have sent the body to the forensic laboratory and have launched an investigation into the accident, the report said.
